New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has described his appointment as the greatest challenge of his managerial career following his official unveiling in Accra ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The vastly experienced tactician was introduced at the Alisa Hotel with just 49 days remaining before the global showpiece begins. Speaking at the event, Queiroz expressed both pride and excitement about leading Ghana on the world stage.
“It’s an honour and a privilege for me to be here. Since I arrived, I started to feel that this is the soul of the Black Stars… and it is huge.”
Having previously managed the Portugal national football team and the Iran national football team, Queiroz acknowledged the weight of expectation tied to Ghana’s football identity and said he is ready to embrace it fully.

“Biggest challenge in 40 years”
Despite a coaching career spanning over four decades and multiple World Cup appearances, Queiroz did not downplay the scale of the task ahead.
“After eight national teams and many competitions, this is the biggest challenge of my entire career—and I’m glad for that.”
The statement underscores the magnitude of the role for a coach who has also managed top clubs such as Real Madrid CF and worked with Manchester United.

A pledge to deliver
Queiroz also made a strong commitment to Ghanaians, promising to rely on his extensive experience as he prepares the team for the tournament.
“I can promise I will bring 40 years of knowledge and experience to every decision. With unity, ambition, and support from everyone, we can bring success and happiness.”
The 73-year-old called for unity across all levels, from the football authorities to supporters as Ghana aims to make an impact on the global stage.
“All together, one Ghana united with cohesion and ambition… I feel ready.”
With the World Cup fast approaching, Queiroz’s arrival signals the beginning of a high-pressure mission, one driven by experience, expectation, and the hopes of a nation.
