President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a $270 million investment package to accelerate Ghana’s artificial intelligence ambitions, as the country moves to position itself as a leading digital innovation hub in Africa.
Speaking at the launch of Ghana’s National AI Strategy in Accra on Friday, April 24, the President outlined plans to develop critical infrastructure and support the rollout of the initiative.
According to him, $250 million will be invested in the establishment of a world-class AI Computing Centre, while an additional $20 million will be allocated to fund the implementation of the national strategy.
Mahama explained that the proposed AI Computing Centre will serve as a central hub for research, innovation, and enterprise development, enabling local talent to build solutions with impact across the continent.
“Infrastructure is the foundation upon which innovation rests. Ghana will invest $250 million to establish a world-class AI computing centre. In addition, government will commit $20 million to support the short to medium term National AI strategy. These investments are bold but necessary,” he said.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by Ghana to strengthen its digital infrastructure and expand its footprint in the global artificial intelligence economy.
