Ken Ofori-Atta to Appear Before US Immigration Court on June 15

Story by Mariam Naadei Hammond

Former Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is scheduled to appear before a United States immigration court on June 15, 2026, in a case that could have significant implications for both his residency status and Ghana’s efforts to secure his return to face criminal charges.

According to court documents, the hearing will take place at 1:00 pm before Judge David A. Gardey at the Annandale Immigration Court in Virginia. Proceedings are expected to be conducted virtually.

The development follows his recent release from custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on April 7, after a court granted him bail set at $65,000.

His legal representatives in Ghana, Minkah-Premo Osei-Bonsu Bruce-Cathline and Partners, confirmed his release and indicated that he has since reunited with his family. In a statement, his lawyers stressed that he remains committed to exercising his legal rights under the U.S. Constitution and due process.

The June 15 hearing is expected to move beyond preliminary matters, with the court set to examine the merits of his immigration case, including arguments surrounding his continued stay in the United States.

The outcome of the proceedings could play a crucial role in determining both his legal standing in the U.S. and the trajectory of any potential extradition efforts.
