Press Statement By The New Patriotic Party Youth Wing In The Bawku Central Constituency

TOPIC: MURDER OF PARTY OFFICERS BY THE GHANA POLICE SERVICE.

Fellow Ghanaians, the minority caucus, civil Society organizations, the international community, all discerning groups. It is with a heavy heart that we bring to your notice that peace and democratic stability of Ghana are currently hanging by a thread following a month of unprecedented, targeted atrocities against a section of Ghanaians and sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bawku central constituency of the Upper East Region.

On the 27th April, 2026, gunmen attacked an NPP youth group on the Bawku central main road. That incident led to the death of Mr. Seidu Samadu, an NPP Polling Station Secretary, with three other patriots injured. Additionally, On 29th April, Personnel of the Ghana police service invaded the house of a former regional executive of the NPP in Zuarungu and arrested over 20 people without any justifiable reason. Two party officers Seidu Safianu and Mohammed Shamsudeen were isolated and alleged to have been transferred to Regional headquarters for interrogation only for us to hear that they have been executed in cold blood by the Ghana police. This is a state-sponsored murder. These young party officers were killed by the very people who took an oath to protect them. Safianu was a Polling Station Youth Organizer and Shamsudeen was a member of the Bawku Central New Patriotic Party Health team.

Ever since the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) assumed office, the sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party, largely the youth wing in Bawku central have been faced with series of intimidations and unlawful arrests, and now extrajudicial killings. Our only crime is that, we gave the New Patriotic Party the highest Presidential votes in all the fifteen (15) constituencies comprising the Upper East Region.

We direct our first appeal to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for the Interior. You both swore an oath to protect all citizens, yet your silence in the face of the kidnapping and murder of Mr. Rasheed (Zarkey), a physically challenged NPP sympathizer by bandits on April 8th, is a betrayal of that oath. Furthermore, the ambush of three innocent women just a stone’s throw from the Bawku police station on April 19th resulting in a tragic loss of life without a single arrest, suggests a government that has abdicated its responsibility. We demand that you immediately rein in political elements within the National Security Agency who are allegedly influencing extrajudicial killings of our brothers in the Bawku Central youth wing of the NPP.

To the Regional Police Command, the blood of the innocent party officers is on your hands.
We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians, civil society organizations, and the diplomatic corps to take note of these human rights abuses. You cannot claim to govern a country while presiding over the systematic elimination of political opponents. The bandits emboldened by the NDC government must be disarmed, and the officers who executed our brothers and members of the New Patriotic Party must face the full rigors of the law.

In conclusion, we state unequivocally that the NPP sympathizers will no longer sit idly while our people are slaughtered with the complicity of the state. We demand justice for Seidu Safianu, Mohammed Shamsudeen, Seidu Samadu, and all those who have fallen victim to this state – Sponsored murder. We call on the President, the Interior Minister, the Majority Leader, and the IGP to respect and honor their oaths of office.

God bless our homeland Ghana
God bless Bawku Central Constituency

Signed,
Mumuni Faisal Basnere (Alhaji Wassap)
