Andre Ayew’s NAC Breda Face Relegation Battle After Appeal Loss in Eredivisie

Andre Ayew’s club NAC Breda are staring at relegation from the Dutch top flight, with just two matches remaining in the 2025/26 Eredivisie season.

Breda currently sit 17th on the league table, six points behind 16th-placed FC Volendam. To survive relegation, NAC must win both of their remaining fixtures and hope Volendam lose their final two matches.

The club’s survival hopes suffered a setback after losing an appeal for a replay of their match against Go Ahead Eagles, which they had contested over the alleged use of an ineligible player, defender Dean James.

The Dutch Football Association initially dismissed NAC Breda’s complaint, and the club later took the matter to court. However, the appeal was rejected, with the court ruling that the football authorities have discretionary power over decisions regarding match replays, effectively upholding the original decision.

Ayew, the former Black Stars captain and Ghana’s all-time leading appearance maker, joined NAC Breda in January and has scored once in 15 league appearances so far.

NAC Breda are scheduled to face SC Heerenveen on Sunday, May 10, in a crucial fixture that could determine their survival hopes.
