Government Reviewing BECE Timetable to Ease Pressure on Candidates – Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that the government is reviewing the timetable for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to provide candidates with more time between papers and reduce examination-related stress.

Speaking at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School on Wednesday, June 10, the minister acknowledged concerns about the current examination schedule, which is conducted within a five-day period from Monday to Friday.

According to him, the existing arrangement places significant pressure on students, limiting the time available for adequate preparation between subjects.

“I understand that our schedule of the exams for BECE was just Monday to Friday, and that put many of you under some stress,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.

He explained that under the proposed changes, the BECE would commence on a Wednesday and conclude the following Wednesday, creating longer intervals between papers and incorporating a weekend break during the examination period.

“The government is reviewing the BECE exams calendar. So now the BECE will begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday, so that adequate time is given to our learners to prepare for BECE across the country,” he said.

Mr. Iddrisu further indicated that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) would supervise the implementation of the revised timetable once the review process is completed and approved.

The proposed adjustment is expected to enhance students’ preparedness and improve their overall examination experience.
