Queiroz Hails Black Stars’ Resilience After England Draw at World Cup

Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, has praised his players for their determination and discipline after Ghana secured a hard-earned point against England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing every point earned at the tournament as a significant achievement.

Ghana held England to a goalless draw in their Group L clash in Boston, extending their unbeaten start to the competition. The result follows the Black Stars’ opening 1-0 victory over Panama and leaves Ghana with four points from two matches without conceding a goal.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Queiroz highlighted the demanding nature of the tournament, insisting that every point comes at a considerable cost due to the level of competition on display.

“To collect points in this World Cup, you have to pay a high price; the points are very expensive. The wins and points are terribly expensive. When you get three points and one point, you have to celebrate because it was a lot of runs, a lot of sacrifices, a lot of commitment during the game,” he said.

The Portuguese coach commended his players for their tactical discipline and work ethic as they successfully contained an England side that struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against Ghana’s well-organised defence.

Queiroz, however, suggested that the Black Stars could have left with all three points, claiming his side was denied a clear penalty during the encounter.

“We had our chances to the point that they are lucky, they are very lucky. It was a clear penalty [on Prince Kwabena Adu by Ezri Konsa] and a red card. At the end of the day, that’s why I say it was a fair result,” he added.

Despite his frustration over the officiating, Queiroz expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and the position they now occupy in the group standings.

The draw keeps Ghana firmly on course for a place in the knockout stages, with the Black Stars collecting four points from their opening two matches while maintaining a perfect defensive record. Another positive result in their final group game could be enough to secure qualification to the next round of the tournament.
