Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport.
Senior figures within the NPP confirmed the arrest on Monday. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, also announced the development in a Facebook post, stating that Mr. Aboagye was picked up by EOCO officers with the assistance of immigration officials before being taken into custody.
According to Mr. Kodua, lawyers representing Mr. Aboagye have been denied access to their client, while his whereabouts remain unknown. He further claimed that no formal charges have been communicated.
Citing Article 14(2) of the 1992 Constitution, Mr. Kodua called on the authorities to grant Mr. Aboagye immediate and unrestricted access to his legal counsel and family.

The NPP General Secretary described the arrest as an act of intimidation rather than a lawful enforcement action, alleging that it forms part of what he described as a pattern of politically motivated invitations, arrests and detentions targeting members of the opposition party.
He further cautioned state institutions against being used for partisan purposes, stressing that public agencies must operate within the confines of the law and uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens.
Mr. Kodua, however, urged party supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and united while the NPP seeks further clarification from the authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr. Aboagye’s arrest.
As of the time of publication, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had not issued an official statement on the arrest or disclosed the reasons for Mr. Aboagye’s detention.
