Majority Backs Ato Forson, Says ‘Ghana Is Working Again’

The Majority in Parliament has commended Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, declaring that the government’s economic management demonstrates that “Ghana is working again.”

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga praised the Finance Minister’s stewardship, describing the budget review as a transparent account of government spending and the country’s economic performance.

Responding to the Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Mr. Ayariga defended the government’s fiscal decisions against criticism from the Minority, which had argued that the review lacked substance and failed to provide sufficient details on government expenditure.

“Mr. Speaker, I must say that the Finance Minister has given a very good account of himself,” he said.

The Majority Leader also dismissed claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that there were inconsistencies in the figures relating to government support for the agriculture sector.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the live broadcast of the budget presentation enabled Ghanaians to independently verify the figures and assess the government’s performance.

He contrasted the current administration’s fiscal management with that of the previous government, arguing that Dr. Ato Forson had successfully managed the economy without depending on some of the taxes and borrowing measures previously employed.

Mr. Ayariga further assured the Finance Minister of Parliament’s support, saying the Majority would facilitate the passage of legislative measures accompanying the Mid-Year Budget Review.

“Under this Finance Minister, Ghana is working again,” he declared.

He added that the Majority caucus would continue to back the Finance Minister as the government pursues reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and sustaining the country’s recovery.
