President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with faith-based organisations to advance national development during a courtesy call by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend & Right Honorable Dame Sarah Elizabeth Mullally DBE, at the Jubilee House.
Welcoming the Archbishop on her first pastoral visit to Africa since becoming the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, President Mahama congratulated her on making history as the first woman to hold the office. He commended the Anglican Church for its longstanding contributions to education, healthcare, social services and community development, describing the Church as a key partner in promoting peace, justice and national progress.
The President also called for stronger collaboration between government and religious institutions to address challenges such as economic uncertainty, inequality and climate change.
Archbishop Mullally expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality she has received in Ghana and said the visit had reaffirmed the unity of the global Anglican Communion despite cultural and geographical differences.
She highlighted the Church’s commitment to reconciliation, education and humanitarian service, noting that her visit includes engagements at heritage sites, churches and educational institutions.
The Archbishop assured President Mahama and the people of Ghana of the Anglican Communion’s prayers, expressing hope for God’s guidance and continued peace and development for the nation.
