Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional chairmanship election after securing a decisive victory in the regional contest held on Saturday, August 15.
COKA polled 658 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested race, defeating Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, former Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who obtained 269 votes.
The significant margin gives COKA a strong mandate to lead the NPP’s regional structures in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold of the party.
Ahead of the election, COKA had expressed confidence in his chances of winning, publicly predicting that he would secure not less than 90 percent of the votes.
His prediction reflected his confidence in his support base and the backing he believed he had among delegates across the region.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship is considered one of the most influential positions within the NPP due to the region’s importance to the party’s electoral fortunes.
COKA will therefore be expected to play a key role in strengthening party unity, mobilisation and coordination across the region as the NPP prepares for its future political contests.
Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, despite his experience as a former legislator and former EPA chief executive, finished the contest with 269 votes.
