Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has emerged as the preferred candidate among NPP voters in the party’s National Chairman race, according to a new survey by Global InfoAnalytics.
The poll, released on August 20, 2026, puts Mr Boadu ahead of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko in what is expected to be a competitive contest for the party’s top executive position.
According to the survey, 27% of NPP voters favour John Boadu for National Chairman, compared with 15% for Boakye Agyarko and 10% for Paul Afoko.
Despite Mr Boadu’s lead, the race remains open, with 47% of respondents declining to name a preferred candidate.
This means nearly half of the NPP voters surveyed are yet to make a choice, leaving a significant pool of undecided voters who could influence the eventual outcome.
Boadu records highest favourability
Mr Boadu also recorded the strongest favourability rating among the three leading candidates.
The survey puts his favourable rating at 61%, against 12% unfavourable, giving him a net approval rating of 49%.
Boakye Agyarko recorded 50% favourable and 17% unfavourable ratings, resulting in a net approval of 34%.
Paul Afoko also recorded a 50% favourable rating but had an 18% unfavourable rating, giving him a net approval of 32%.
Mr Boadu leads the named candidates in several regions, including Bono East, where he records 43%, Greater Accra with 38%, North East with 38%, Northern with 29%, Upper East with 41% and Central with 27%.
Mr Agyarko remains competitive in some regions, recording 23% in Bono East, 22% in Greater Accra and 21% in the Central Region.
Mr Afoko’s strongest performance is in the Savannah Region, where he records 22%, followed by 19% in the North East Region.
However, uncertainty remains particularly high in several regions. In the Ashanti Region, 71% of respondents expressed no preference, while the figure stands at 63% in both Oti and Upper West, 60% in Western North and 56% in the Volta Region.
Kodua leads General Secretary race
In the contest for General Secretary, incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong has established a commanding lead over his potential challengers.
Mr Kodua attracts 36% support, compared with 10% for Eugene Antwi, 5% for Sylvester Tetteh and 3% for Charles Dwamena.
Another 46% of respondents have no preferred candidate, suggesting that the race remains open despite Mr Kodua’s lead among those who expressed a choice.
His strongest regional performance comes from the Central Region, where he records 60%, followed by Greater Accra at 54%, Bono East at 44%, Upper East at 43%, Northern at 40%, Ahafo at 39% and North East at 39%.
Eugene Antwi’s strongest showing is in Bono East at 30%, followed by 18% in the Volta Region and 14% in Greater Accra.
Titus Glover leads National Organiser contest
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover is leading the National Organiser race, although half of respondents remain undecided.
Mr Glover records 23% support, followed by Salam Mustapha with 14%, Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim with 8% and Kwame A. Prempeh with 5%.
The regional figures show a more competitive contest.
Mr Glover’s strongest support comes from the Northern Region at 35%. He also records 28% in the Volta Region and 27% each in Ahafo and Greater Accra.
Salam Mustapha leads in the Oti Region with 28% and records 25% in Upper West and 24% in Upper East.
Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim records 28% in Bono, 23% in North East and 21% in Upper West, while Kwame A. Prempeh’s strongest showing is 21% in Bono East.
Chairmanship preferences overlap with other races
The survey also examined how support for the three leading National Chairman contenders aligns with preferences in the General Secretary and National Organiser races.
Among respondents who prefer John Boadu as National Chairman, 63% support Justin Kodua Frimpong for General Secretary.
Mr Kodua also attracts 53% support among Boakye Agyarko supporters and 49% among those backing Paul Afoko.
Eugene Antwi attracts 21% among Agyarko supporters, 15% among Boadu supporters and 19% among Afoko supporters.
In the National Organiser race, Titus Glover is preferred by 43% of Boakye Agyarko supporters, 36% of John Boadu supporters and 34% of Paul Afoko supporters.
Salam Mustapha attracts 20% among Agyarko supporters, 24% among Boadu supporters and 31% among Afoko supporters.
The findings suggest that Justin Kodua and Titus Glover currently command support across the camps of the three leading contenders for National Chairman.
Undecided voters could determine outcome
The large proportion of undecided voters remains one of the key findings of the survey.
While 47% have no preferred candidate in the National Chairman race, 46% remain undecided in the General Secretary contest and 50% have yet to choose a candidate for National Organiser.
The figures indicate that although John Boadu, Justin Kodua Frimpong and Titus Glover currently lead their respective races, none of the contests can be considered settled.
Global InfoAnalytics conducted the survey through telephone interviews between August 10 and 12, 2026.
The poll involved 2,557 respondents drawn from all 16 regions using probability random sampling with regional quota limits and the 2024 Electoral Commission register as the sampling frame.
The survey reports a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.56 percentage points.
