Parliament is set to reconvene today, Monday, August 24, for a special sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin.
The sitting comes less than a month after the House adjourned on July 31, with Members of Parliament returning to the Chamber to consider matters deemed urgent and requiring immediate attention.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers him to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances warrant an early resumption of parliamentary business.
The recall is expected to provide MPs with an opportunity to deliberate on issues that cannot wait until the next scheduled sitting.
The special sitting is scheduled to run from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28.
Among the key matters expected to come before the House are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
The two nominees are expected to undergo parliamentary scrutiny as part of the approval process for their respective ministerial appointments.
The week-long sitting is therefore expected to focus on the urgent government business that prompted the Speaker to exercise his recall powers.
