Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded into police custody for one week over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered the remand on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when Ayitey Powers appeared before the court.
He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing, with Ayitey Powers expected to return to court on September 2, 2026.
His arrest came after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) called for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged remarks.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations ahead of his next court appearance.
