President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as ministers following their approval by Parliament.
The two were sworn into office on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in a constitutional ceremony that formally marks the beginning of their tenure in their respective ministries.
Their appointment followed Parliament’s unanimous approval of their nominations after both nominees appeared before the Appointments Committee for vetting.
On Thursday, August 27, Parliament approved Mr Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was approved as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The parliamentary approval paved the way for President Mahama to complete the appointment process and administer the constitutional oaths required for them to assume office.
During Saturday’s ceremony, President Mahama administered the Oath of Office, Oath of Secrecy and Oath of Allegiance to the two ministers.
Mr Ayariga’s new portfolio gives him responsibility for key aspects of national administration, including decentralisation, local government, chieftaincy matters and relations with traditional and religious authorities.
At his vetting on August 27, Mr Ayariga identified stronger collaboration between Members of Parliament and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as one of his priorities.
He also pledged to carry out his responsibilities with fairness and impartiality, particularly in relation to matters concerning the Mamprugu Traditional Council and the wider Ghanaian population, despite his personal ties to the area.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, meanwhile, takes charge of a ministry responsible for a wide range of issues, including environmental protection, scientific research, technological advancement and sustainable development.
In her new role, she is expected to collaborate with state agencies, researchers, industry players and development partners to advance policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s environment, science and technology sectors.
