The Eastern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern South Regional Command, has arrested a suspected armed robber in connection with a series of highway robbery incidents along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The suspect, identified as Bube Gariba, was arrested at Akateng near Asesewa on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.
Police said the arrest followed investigations into a gang suspected of carrying out several robbery attacks targeting commuters along the Nsawam-Suhum stretch and other parts of the Eastern South Region.
The locations mentioned include Kwafokrom, Anoff, Nsawam-Adeiso, Apedwa, Adasawase-Ankaase and Enyiresi.
According to the Police, Gariba admitted during interrogation to participating in three highway robberies near Anyinam. He allegedly told investigators that he received GH¢5,700 and GH¢1,500 as his share of proceeds from the robberies.
He reportedly named Mohammadu, Ali and Abdulai as alleged accomplices and identified a man known as Osmanu, a resident of Accra, as the alleged leader of the gang.
Police said Gariba further alleged that Osmanu supplied two pump-action guns used during the attacks.
One of the alleged accomplices, Mohammadu, reportedly escaped after his wife allegedly alerted him and obstructed officers attempting to arrest him. His wife, 22-year-old Karia Hawa Isha, was subsequently arrested.
Meanwhile, nine other individuals picked up at the location are being screened to establish whether they have any connection to the robbery incidents.
Police have launched a manhunt for Mohammadu, Osmanu and other suspected members who remain at large.
