The Ghana Armed Forces Engineers have cleared 170 kilometres of the 176-kilometre corridor earmarked for the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway, leaving just six kilometres to complete the exercise.
The latest progress marks a major step forward in preparations for the long-awaited road project, with the military engineering team continuing its advance towards Sawua.

On Thursday, September 3, the Ghana Armed Forces said the corridor-clearing exercise had entered its final stage.
“The finish line is in sight. Out of 176 kilometres of challenging terrain, just 6 KM REMAIN!” the GAF stated.
The Armed Forces commended its engineers for their determination and discipline in clearing the difficult terrain along the proposed route.
The latest update represents a significant improvement from the figures recorded earlier in the year. As of June 25, 2026, 89.5 kilometres, representing 50.9 per cent of the corridor, had been cleared.
The entire corridor-clearing exercise was initially expected to be completed within 20 weeks.
Preparing for Major Construction
Clearing the corridor is an important preparatory stage for the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, as it helps establish the required right of way ahead of major construction activities.
When completed, the proposed expressway is expected to strengthen connectivity between Accra and Kumasi, reduce travel times, ease congestion and improve the movement of people and goods.
With only six kilometres remaining, the Ghana Armed Forces says its engineers are now pushing towards the completion of the corridor-clearing exercise.
