Afoko dismisses polls, says October 3 NPP delegates’ vote will decide chairmanship

NPP National Chairperson hopeful Paul Afoko has dismissed recent opinion polls tracking the party’s leadership race, declaring that the delegates’ vote on October 3 will be the ultimate decider.

His remarks follow a Global InfoAnalytics survey released on August 20, 2026, which placed former General Secretary John Boadu in the lead with 27% support among NPP voters. Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko trailed in second with 15%, while Mr. Afoko polled at 10%.

Speaking to reporters following a thanksgiving service for newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives at Gracefields Chapel in the Nhyiaeso Constituency, Mr. Afoko expressed strong confidence in his campaign ground game.

“I don’t believe in any polls. The only poll I believe in is the October 3 poll here in Kumasi,” Mr. Afoko stated.

He asserted that his message is resonating well with delegates across the constituencies he has toured, warning that pre-election surveys often fail to capture true voter intent.

“All other polls are just speculation,” he added. “As they say, you can’t enter into a person’s mind and know whether they are telling you the truth or not.”
