Abossey Okai Dealers Reject 30% Fare Hike Justification as “False”

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has firmly pushed back against claims by the Ghana Road and Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) that surging spare parts prices justify a proposed 30% increase in transport fares. Describing the unions’ assertions as false and misleading, the Association urged the general public to completely disregard the argument.

According to the Association, there has been no recent price surge or market disruption that supports the transport operators’ claims. Inventory levels across Abossey Okai remain fully stocked, prices for essential maintenance items such as engine oil and filters have stayed unchanged, and import duties have seen no significant shifts.The dealers further accused the transport unions of using the proposed fare hike to pressure the government and exploit ordinary passengers.

Highlighting a key contradiction, the Association pointed out that commercial operators themselves previously claimed to purchase their spare parts online rather than from local dealers, making any reference to Abossey Okai market prices entirely unfounded.
