Dr. Bawumia Engages Medical Students and Young Doctors over Health Sector Challenges

The 2028 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has convened a stakeholder engagement with leaders of Ghana’s young doctors and medical students to address the pressuring challenges facing emerging healthcare professionals.

The consultative session brought together executive leadership from the Junior Doctors Association, the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association, and campus association presidents from medical schools across the country.

The meeting provided an open platform to examine systemic hurdles in medical training, delays in housemanship and post-graduation postings, working conditions, practitioner welfare, and structured career progression pathways within the public health system.

Policy Frameworks for the Future Health Workforce

Speaking after the engagement, Dr. Bawumia stressed that the operational challenges and perspectives of young medical professionals must directly inform national health policy formulation.

He emphasized that safeguarding the welfare and professional development of young doctors is vital to retaining top medical talent and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s health infrastructure.

“These are the brilliant minds who will carry the weight of Ghana’s healthcare system tomorrow, and their voices must shape our policies today,” Dr. Bawumia stated, commending the student and professional leaders for their constructive proposals toward health sector reform.
