President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, a major mixed-use development expected to expand Accra’s residential, hospitality, commercial and leisure infrastructure.
The project will feature approximately 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a conference facility with a 2,500-person capacity, healthcare facilities and a modern shopping mall.
Plans also include landscaped gardens, 503 parking spaces within a four-storey apartment building, as well as additional commercial and leisure facilities.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama urged the developers to provide meaningful opportunities for Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and other local businesses to participate in the project.
He said greater involvement of local professionals and businesses would help ensure that the investment creates broader economic opportunities for Ghanaians beyond the development itself.
President Mahama also expressed optimism that the expansion of conference facilities in Accra would position Ghana to host major international events, including United Nations conferences.
According to him, facilities capable of hosting high-profile international gatherings would further enhance Accra’s position as a destination for international conferences and business activities.
