Nana B Questions Mahama’s Response to Recent Drug Trafficking Cases

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as a lack of decisive action against officials linked to Ghana’s recent drug trafficking cases.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, described the recent drug seizures as an “international embarrassment” and called for officials responsible for preventing narcotics trafficking to be removed from office.

His comments come days after President Mahama met with security and port-sector agencies on September 17 to assess a number of recent drug trafficking cases.

At the meeting, the President was informed that 10 people, including four Customs Division officers, had been arrested and were assisting with investigations. He subsequently directed an inter-agency task force to develop measures aimed at tightening controls and preventing further narcotics trafficking.

However, Nana Boakye said the President’s response did not go far enough, arguing that officials whose institutions had failed to prevent the incidents should face dismissal.

“God, this is a huge international embarrassment. You have, in just four days, close to about five illicit drug-related matters,” he said.

He questioned why the President had opted to convene a meeting and issue further directives rather than take disciplinary action against officials he believes had failed in their duties.

“And all the President can do is to call for a team meeting at the Jubilee House and then just instruct people to make sure that you tighten the work you are doing,” Nana Boakye said.

“They must be sacked. They have relaxed on their duties. They must be sacked.”

Nana Boakye also accused President Mahama of failing to fulfil his promise to take firm action against officials responsible for the lapses.

“His Excellency the President spoke tough. He was going to crack the whip today. He cannot crack the whip. He is rather pampering the activities of illicit drugs,” he said.

According to the NPP National Organiser, about nine officials should have been removed from their positions following the recent incidents.

“Close to about nine officials should have been sacked by now. Yet the President is pampering them,” Nana Boakye added.
