The High Court in Accra has adjourned the bail hearing involving Salomey Baffoe, who has been accused of abetting the publication of false information by social media personality Ghana Jollof, to September 24, 2026.
The adjournment followed a request by the prosecution for additional time to respond to the defence’s application for bail.
An Assistant State Attorney, Carl Afedzi Forson, told the court that he was not the substantive lawyer handling the case. He explained that the Attorney-General’s Office had received the bail application on Friday, but the intervening public holiday on Monday meant it had not yet been assigned to a lawyer.
The prosecution therefore asked the court for a short adjournment to enable the State to prepare its response.
However, counsel for Baffoe, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, opposed the request, arguing that the case involved the liberty of an accused person and should not be treated like an ordinary civil proceeding requiring three clear days for service.
He maintained that the prosecution had been duly served with the application and had not claimed that it was served with insufficient notice.
Counsel further argued that applications involving the liberty of an accused person could be heard even during weekends and that the applicable period for responding to such applications continued to run.
He also submitted that the State had been given sufficient time to respond, warning that another delay could undermine the purpose of the bail application because Baffoe would have spent about two weeks in custody by the time the prosecution filed and served its response.
In its ruling, the court acknowledged that the liberty of the applicant was at stake and emphasised that the State should not treat the matter casually.
The court subsequently adjourned the case to September 24, directing the Republic to file any processes it intends to rely on and serve them by 9:00 a.m.
