The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has maintained electricity and water tariffs at their existing levels for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Commission announced that tariffs applicable during the third quarter will remain unchanged from October 1 through December 31, representing a 0 percent adjustment.
The decision follows PURC’s quarterly tariff review, which assesses prevailing economic and operational conditions to ensure that utility tariffs remain sustainable while supporting the financial viability of service providers.
PURC said the review process is also intended to preserve the real value of existing tariffs and enable utility companies to continue delivering reliable services to consumers.
According to the Commission, the potential impact of tariff adjustments on consumers’ general welfare is also considered when determining the applicable rates.
For the fourth-quarter review, PURC assessed a number of economic and operational indicators, including the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, the electricity generation mix and fuel costs, particularly the cost of natural gas used by thermal power plants.
On the foreign exchange rate, PURC used a weighted average rate of GH¢11.5646 to US$1 for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The rate represents a 3.04 percent depreciation of the Ghana cedi compared with the third-quarter reference rate of GH¢11.2228 to US$1.
PURC also adopted an average annual inflation rate of 4.97 percent for the quarter.
This marks a 44.89 percent increase from the previous quarter’s average annual inflation rate of 3.43 percent.
Despite the movements in these economic indicators, PURC concluded that there would be no adjustment to electricity and water tariffs for the fourth quarter of 2026.
