Ato Forson Urges Businesses to Invest as Ghana Moves from Stability to Transformation

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has urged businesses to invest with confidence, saying the government intends to sustain recent economic gains and create conditions for increased private-sector investment.

Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and other industry leaders, Dr Forson said the government’s new economic transformation blueprint would be outlined in the 2027 Budget.

“Feel free to invest because we will sustain the gains. The golden era for Ghana is beginning, and our new blueprint will be announced in the 2027 Budget,” he said.

The Finance Minister said the government would work to protect and strengthen improvements in the country’s macroeconomic environment.

He said the 2027 Budget would seek to move Ghana beyond economic stabilisation towards broader economic transformation.

Dr Forson also referred to President John Dramani Mahama’s announced plan to mobilise US$10 billion in investments for strategic sectors over the next four years. Government has said the initiative is intended to expand production, create jobs and generate wealth.

“We want to produce more, add value and create more jobs for the Ghanaian economy. This means addressing the fundamental challenges we face as a country,” Dr Forson said.

He added that the government had taken steps to reduce the cost of capital and would continue working to lower it further to support business expansion and investment.

“We need your support to raise the necessary revenue so that the Government does not borrow beyond its means, as we saw in 2022,” he said.

The comments form part of the government’s broader stated objective of using improved economic stability as a foundation for private-sector-led growth, investment and job creation.
