Labour Minister Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum has announced that striking teachers are expected to return to the classroom by Monday following successful negotiations between the government and teacher unions.
The agreement, reached after discussions to address the concerns that triggered the industrial action, is expected to bring an end to the disruption of academic activities that has left parents and students worried.
According to the minister, the government has committed to addressing the teachers’ outstanding financial concerns, including promotion-related payments and allowances for teachers serving in deprived and remote areas.
He said the payments would be processed according to an agreed timeline as part of efforts to resolve the grievances that led to the strike.
To prevent similar disruptions in the future, both parties have also agreed to hold regular consultations to address emerging concerns and resolve disputes through dialogue.
The minister said the government remained committed to building a constructive relationship with teacher unions to promote industrial harmony and ensure uninterrupted teaching and learning.
The planned return to the classroom is expected to restore normal academic activities as the government works with the unions to fulfil its commitments and prevent future labour disputes.
