Newly sworn-in Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Joseph Kweku Asamoah, has pledged that the Commission will carry out its electoral responsibilities without fear or favour.
Speaking on behalf of himself and fellow Deputy Chairperson Emelia Afi Agbenyo at their swearing-in ceremony on Monday, October 12, 2026, Dr Asamoah urged Ghanaians to actively engage with the Commission and contribute to improving its operations.
He encouraged the public to participate in the Commission’s work and offer constructive criticism to help strengthen the institution and build public confidence in its mandate.
“We expect Ghanaians to engage the Electoral Commission, to participate in the commission, to critique the commission in order to make it a perfect institution that you all help to create,” he said.
Dr Asamoah reaffirmed their commitment to conducting their duties impartially, seeking the support of President John Dramani Mahama in fulfilling their responsibilities.
“May we seek your audience and may we seek your power here, Mr President, to promise that we will deliver without fear or favour,” he added.
The Deputy Chairperson stressed that credible elections were not solely the responsibility of the Electoral Commission but a collective national obligation requiring the active participation of all relevant stakeholders.
“Credible elections are therefore the responsibility of this commission, but it is not the responsibility of the commission alone. It is a national duty,” he said.
He identified political parties, Parliament, the security services, civil society organisations, the judiciary, the media and citizens as essential partners in ensuring transparent and credible elections.
Dr Asamoah called on all stakeholders to work together with the Commission to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
“Political parties, Parliament, security services, civil society, the judiciary, the media and every citizen must play a role. And we call on all of you to join hands with us,” he said.
