The Majority Caucus on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee has accused Bosome Freho MP Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh of attempting to pressure Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to allow NPP Second Vice-Chairman Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, to retain a service passport he was allegedly not entitled to hold.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Salaga South MP Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah alleged that Mr Asafo-Adjei Ayeh and Nana B had approached the minister to seek an exception for the former NPP National Youth Organiser.
She said the passport in question bears the number SS-003454, adding that Mr Ablakwa declined the request because Nana B’s previous positions did not qualify him to hold a service passport.
According to Hajia Ibrahimah, Nana B’s former roles as NPP National Youth Organiser and Board Chairman of the National Food Buffer Stock Company did not meet the requirements for retaining the travel document.
The Majority Caucus argued that the alleged attempt to secure special treatment raised concerns about the use of parliamentary oversight for personal interests, particularly in light of what it described as repeated personal attacks on the Foreign Affairs Minister by the Bosome Freho legislator.
“Friends from the media, we all seek favours from people, but we seek reasonable favours. We seek favours within the law. There is the legal saying that he that comes with equity must come with clean hands,” Hajia Ibrahimah said.
The caucus further linked the alleged request to a directive issued under the Mahama administration requiring former public officeholders to surrender diplomatic and service passports they were no longer qualified to retain.
The allegations emerge amid an ongoing dispute between the Majority and Minority caucuses over the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s handling of the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from South Africa.
Mr Asafo-Adjei Ayeh has raised questions about the reported GH¢49.72 million expenditure on the evacuation exercise, pointing to what he claims are discrepancies in documents supplied by the ministry in response to his request under the Right to Information (RTI) law.
The disagreement has heightened tensions between the two sides, with the Majority’s latest allegations adding another dimension to the controversy surrounding the ministry and its handling of public affairs.
The claims concerning the alleged request for Nana B to retain his service passport were made by the Majority Caucus. Further details of any response from Mr Asafo-Adjei Ayeh or Nana B to the allegations were not provided in the account.
