President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing his commitment to deepening cooperation between Ghana and Brazil and promoting the interests of countries in the Global South.
In a message shared on Facebook, President Mahama described Lula’s re-election as well-deserved and highlighted the longstanding historical ties between the two nations. He also expressed optimism about expanding bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
“Congratulations to President Luiz Lula da Silva on your well-deserved re-election as President of Brazil. Brazil and Ghana share a rich history, and I look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations.

“Together, through the Accra Reset initiative, we will continue championing the Global South agenda for the betterment of our peoples,” Mahama stated.
The congratulatory message followed Brazil’s presidential run-off election held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in which Lula secured another term after facing Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party.
Results released by Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court indicated that Lula received 51.79 per cent of the valid votes, amounting to 64,256,232 votes. His challenger, Bolsonaro, garnered 48.21 per cent, representing 59,826,041 votes.
Lula’s re-election extends the political career of the 80-year-old leader, who returned to the presidency in 2023 after previously serving two terms between 2003 and 2010.
President Mahama’s message underscores Ghana’s interest in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Brazil while using initiatives such as the Accra Reset to advance shared priorities among countries of the Global South.
