Roads Ministry Wins Public Sector PR Organisation of the Year for Second Consecutive Time

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has won the Public Sector PR Organisation of the Year award for the second consecutive time at the IPR Ghana Excellence Awards.

Organised by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana, the award recognises the Ministry’s commitment to transparent communication, effective stakeholder engagement and innovative public relations practices.

The ceremony, held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, honours public institutions that demonstrate excellence in communication, uphold professional public relations standards and build public confidence through their work.

According to IPR Ghana, the Ministry earned the recognition for its sustained efforts to provide Ghanaians with timely, accessible and relevant information on road infrastructure development. The Institute noted that the back-to-back victories underscore the strategic direction and professionalism of the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit.

Leadership and Transformation

The Ministry’s communication reforms over the past five years were spearheaded by Alhaji Nasir Ahmad Yartey, APR, who until recently served as its Head of Public Relations.

Alhaji Yartey, a public relations practitioner and development communication professional, has more than 17 years of experience in Ghana’s public sector.

During his tenure, communication was positioned as a key tool for informing the public about the implementation of major road projects nationwide. The Ministry’s Public Relations Unit expanded proactive media engagements, strengthened community outreach initiatives and enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders.

These interventions have contributed to greater public awareness of ongoing road projects, clearer communication of project timelines and increased confidence in the Ministry’s activities.

Digital Communication and Public Engagement

As part of its communication strategy, the Ministry adopted digital tools to improve access to information on road infrastructure development. Key initiatives included enhanced social media reporting, visual storytelling to showcase progress on national road projects and improved crisis communication systems to address public concerns promptly and accurately.

The Ministry’s growing profile in public relations is also reflected in earlier industry recognition. At the 2022 Government PROs Excellence Awards, it received the Best Social Media PR Unit award, while Alhaji Nasir Ahmad Yartey, APR, was named second runner-up for PRO of the Year.

Building on these achievements, the Ministry says it remains committed to strengthening its communication reforms, expanding citizen engagement and supporting the delivery of safe, resilient and modern road infrastructure to advance national development.

The IPR Ghana Excellence Awards is a major industry recognition platform in Ghana, celebrating individuals and institutions that demonstrate professionalism, accountability, innovation and excellence in public relations and strategic communication.
