Residents of La have staged a demonstration to protest the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, urging the government to intervene and help restore the livelihoods of traders and workers affected by the exercise.
The demonstration, dubbed “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo,” was organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front to express residents’ dissatisfaction with the demolition and its impact on individuals and businesses that depend on the beach for their income.
Addressing the demonstrators, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Titus Glover appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure that the affected traders are allowed to return to the site and resume their activities.
He called on the President to safeguard the rights of the affected Ga-Dangme people and help ease the economic difficulties resulting from the demolition.
“We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place,” he said.
The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a request by Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Some affected traders and workers say the exercise has severely disrupted their businesses and deprived them of their main source of income.
