KMA Deploys Military Task Force to Clear Traders and Vehicles Around KATH Roundabout

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in collaboration with military personnel, has commenced an enforcement operation to decongest the busy stretch between the Bekwai Roundabout and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) roundabout.

The exercise, involving KMA city guards and military officers, has led to the confiscation of traders’ goods and the impounding of commercial vehicles found loading and dropping off passengers along the affected stretch.

The operation follows a final warning issued by the Assembly directing commercial drivers operating around the KATH roundabout to vacate the area before November 1, 2026.

However, some drivers and traders who failed to comply with the directive are now being compelled to leave as the task force intensifies enforcement.

The Assembly has indicated that the operation will be sustained to prevent traders and commercial drivers from returning to the area and causing further congestion.

The stretch is one of the busiest routes in Kumasi and serves as a major access road to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The persistent traffic congestion has often made it difficult for ambulances and other vehicles transporting patients to access the hospital without delays.

Despite the installation of no-parking and no-stopping signs, some commercial drivers have continued to pick up and drop off passengers along the road, obstructing the smooth movement of traffic.

The enforcement exercise has received commendation from some commuters, who say the operation has improved traffic flow and made movement along the stretch easier.

They have, however, urged the Assembly to maintain the exercise to prevent traders and drivers from returning to the area once the task force withdraws.

Meanwhile, some affected drivers and traders have expressed dissatisfaction with the operation, following the confiscation of goods and the impounding of vehicles.

The KMA is expected to sustain the enforcement measures as part of efforts to improve traffic management and ensure easier access to the teaching hospital.
