Winifred won the first gold medal in the 49-kilogram snatch. This event took place at the GCB hall at the University of Ghana legon.
She competed with NY Hasina Adrimintantsoa Zo Lalain from Madagascar who won the silver medal. She also won two silver medals in the clean and jerk event in the women’s weightlifting competition.
The 21-year-old Winifred Ntumi was the first lady to win the gold medal for Ghana in the 13th African Games.
