Illegal miner drowns in abandoned mining pit

A 22-year-old illegal miner, Yussif Haruna has drowned in an abandoned mining pit at Kubi near Dunkwa in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased and others had gone to prospect for gold in an abandoned illegal mining site on the outskirts of Kubi.

According to a police report sighted by MyNewsGh.com, the deceased went to the bank of an abandoned pit filled with water to wash down, slipped, fell into the pit and drowned.

He was quickly rescued and rushed to Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the same hospital mortuary for preservation.
