Wa: Unsafe school conditions pose a threat to education

The Wa Municipal Assembly reports that students and teachers are risking their lives under dilapidated school structures.

According to the report, 62 public junior high schools, 88 primary schools, and 72 kindergarten schools lack essential educational facilities, such as proper classrooms.

St. Paul’s Methodist Basic School is a good example, where kindergarten students study in inadequate classrooms, posing significant risks that may result in low attendance and increased school dropouts.

Madam Paschalina Dery, the headmistress of St. Paul’s Methodist Basic School, emphasized that the poor condition of the school’s environment has led to an increase in student dropouts.

She also pointed out that the insufficient sanitation and the precarious state of the classrooms worsen the challenges, particularly during rainy weather. It is evident that there is an urgent need for improved facilities and safer learning environments to ensure the safety and continued education of the students in Wa Municipality.
