Marlins have been crowned Champions after winning fifty-three medals, seventeen gold, twenty-three silver, and thirteen bronze medals in this year’s President Cup National Swimming Championship held at Legon Pool at the University of Ghana.
This year’s event saw eleven swimming clubs competing for honours with the purpose of unearthing talents for the Swimming Association.
President of Ghana Swimming Association, Delphina Quaye hosted a grand competition for swimmers at the Legon pool. The event is to sensitive the public about swimming, Create Awareness about the Sport, Unearth talents and reward the best swimmers.
Eleven Swimming Clubs, Marlins, Legon Sharks swimming clubs, GH Dolphins, Tema Seals swim team, Ghana Bluefins swim club, GH Aquatic Masters, African Sharks, Torpedo Swimming club, KNUST Dolphins, Monarchs and Dolphins Swim Center battled for honours in hundred meters butterfly, hundred meters backstroke, Breast Stroke and freestyle event.
The event also saw young Athletes between the ages of seven and ten competing for honours.
At the end of the Swimming Championship awards were presented to the best swimmers at the President’s Cup
The President of the Ghana Swimming Association said she was excited and amazed to see young Kids competing with much enthusiasm
She continued that swimming has a long way to go, they are doing their best but with the lack of facilities, it’s difficult for them to go to places the Association wants to go
According to her swimming is about points, those who are the fastest are the ones they will pick out and nature them for national and international competition
She added that the competition forms part of the preparations for the African Games and they are excited and hoping that come next year they will get the crop of swimmers they will desire that can help Ghana win some medals against their counterparts from Africa
The National swimming championship ended with Marlins winning fifty-three medals, seventeen gold, twenty-three silver, and thirteen bronze medals with kNUST Dolphins who finished at the bottom of the table with two medals
Jonathan Forcados from Legon Sharks won best male swimmer whiles Oduma Agyei from GH Dolphins won best female swimmer.
