We Didn’t Mastermind Kwame Eugene’s 2019 “King Of Future Highlife Crown” – Charterhouse

Veteran Highlife musician, Amakye Dede in an interview yesterday, June 14, mentioned that he was forced to crown Kuami Eugene Highlife King at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which got Ghanaians trolling him

According to the legend, he did that under compulsion, but Charterhouse has come out to debunk its involvement.

Four years down the line after Amakye Dede sparked huge debate and faced public backlash for crowning Kuami Eugene, he has revealed that the act was orchestrated by Charterhouse

“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so. They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene. I even gave the crown they handed over to me to someone to put it down, but they later said, no I have to crown him, and I did it,” he revealed.

Even though this is the first time Amakye Dede has opened up about the incident, most popular faces in the showbiz fraternity including Akwaboah had already suspected the act to be a thing of Charterhouse

In an interview with Kwaku Manu in 2020, Akwaboah described the crowning as a sham orchestrated by Charterhouse, organizers of VGMA.

But responding to all these claims, Robert Klah, head of public events and communication at Charterhouse said the board had no hands in crowning the rock star.

“We did not orchestrate any crowning session.”So I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organizers are responsible…We work with a team… so, you give them the opportunity, they create what they want to do, …the only thing is that you want to ensure that whatever they are going to present is not distasteful, so they get there and perform their act and you move on,” he said.

Believe that the story will not die soon. Posterity will judge if the highlife maestro or the event house made the famous call.
