Chief of Ahenkro, Nana Ahenkro Osei Poku (IV) has cut sod to begin the construction of the Ahenkro Market in Afigya Kwabre north of the Ashanti Region.
The project, which is expected to be completed within 21 months is under the Public and Private Partnership Support Program (PPP).
The construction of the market project will include 149 stores, a paved station car park, and a washroom facility.
At the brief groundbreaking ceremony, the Chief of Ahenkro, Nana Osei Poku IV said, the construction of the modern market had become necessary because of the deplorable state of the old one, which was built over seventy years ago.
He appealed to residents of Ahenkro to support the Assembly and the contractor to ensure that the project is completed on time.
Meanwhile, the District chief executive DCE for Afigya Kwabre North district Hon.Kakari Acheampong said no trader will be left out after completion and would be shared equally among them.
He, therefore, charged the contractor of Jometo construction limited to double up works to ensure that the contract is completed on schedule.
