Cecilia Dapaah’s case: Police uncover luxury cars worth GHS600K

The police have successfully traced two new Honda Acura cars valued at over GH¢600,000 to individuals involved in the theft of significant sums of money and valuable items from the home of former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

These cars are registered under the names of Christiana Achab, a trader, and Patience Botwe, a hairdresser. Both Achab and Botwe are among the seven accused individuals currently facing trial for their involvement in the theft case.

In addition to these findings, the police have uncovered four more houses allegedly purchased using the stolen funds by the suspects. These properties are situated in Budumburam, Aplaku, and Kokrobite in the Central Region, as well as Amrahia in the Greater Accra Region.

These new discoveries add to the previous list of properties and items that have been recovered from the accused, which include cash, jewelry, handbags, kente cloths, and other household items.

The charge sheet against the seven accused persons has been amended by the police. Patience Botwe (18, hairdresser), Sarah Agyei (30, unemployed), Benjamin Sowah (29, plumber), Malik Dauda (34, unemployed), Christiana Achab (trader), Job Pomary (mechanic), and Yahaya Sumaila (excavator operator) are facing 14 counts of conspiracy, stealing, and dishonestly receiving.

These individuals are alleged to have stolen $1 million, €300,000, and several million Ghana cedis from the former minister’s residence in Abelemkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.

Two of the accused, Sarah Agyei and Christiana Achab, who are nursing mothers, have been granted bail with stringent conditions. The remaining accused persons have been remanded in custody as further investigations continue.

The prosecution has indicated that the Attorney General’s office will take over the case once comprehensive investigations are completed. The defense lawyers maintain the innocence of their clients until proven otherwise. The case has been adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
