Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, has claimed that the land on which the Saglemi Housing Project is located belongs to his family.
He stated that his family had initially leased the land to the government for the purpose of constructing a public housing project, and not for the land to be handed over to private developers.
The MP’s remarks follow the government’s decision to lease the Saglemi Housing Project to private developers in order to make the project operational.
According to Sam George, his family is the original landowner and the government had not fully compensated them for the land. He argued that the government should engage with his family if it intends to proceed with its current course of action. He emphasized that the government’s decision might potentially violate the terms of the lease agreement.
Sam George insisted that until the government fulfills its obligations under the lease agreement and engages with the original landowners, any private developer attempting to work on the land could be seen as trespassing.
His statement underscores a dispute over land ownership and the intended use of the land for the Saglemi Housing Project, further highlighting the complexities and challenges involved in large-scale development projects involving public and private interests.
