NDC accuses Lydia Alhassan diverts Common Fund for political purposes

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ayawaso West Wuogon has alleged that the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, is diverting the district assembly’s common fund to finance her political endeavors.

According to the NDC, the purpose of the fund, which is intended to address developmental needs within the constituency, is being disregarded.

Bismark Aborbi Aryitey, the chairman of the NDC in Ayawaso West Wuogon, expressed his concerns in an interview with Citi News. He asserted that Alhassan has not provided a transparent account of the common fund’s usage.

“Without a doubt, she has access to the common fund but has failed to present a proper account. As a stakeholder in this constituency, there has been no instance where Lydia Alhassan has engaged with the Landlord Association to address issues like drainage concerns by utilizing the common fund allocated for such purposes.”

He continued, “The common fund is being disproportionately utilized within the constituency, particularly in favor of NPP members. Nonetheless, Ghanaian voters are becoming more discerning.”

Simultaneously, the leadership of the NDC within the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency has endorsed actor-turned-farmer John Dumelo as their candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections. In an official statement signed by the constituency chairman, Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, the NDC revealed that the other two contenders in the race, Fred Nuamah, and Kojo Adu Owusu, have voluntarily withdrawn from the contest to pave the way for Dumelo’s representation.

Fred Nuamah officially withdrew from the race on August 8 and pledged his unwavering support for John Dumelo’s candidacy.

The NDC has called on the public and their supporters to rally behind Dumelo’s campaign, aiming to capture the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
