Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture, has reversed his stance on declaring his choice for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership. Initially, Acheampong had stated that he would not reveal his preferred candidate until after the NPP Superdelegates primary on August 26, 2023.
This decision was reportedly influenced by his concern that his preferred candidate might not win.
He mentioned that he would wait for the direction provided by the Superdelegates before publicly announcing his support.
However, just a few days later, Acheampong publicly declared his support for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia during the Vice President’s rounds in Abetifi. He mentioned that he would be voting for Bawumia based on the endorsement of Senior MPs and party stalwarts, indicating a change in his stance.
The NPP Superdelegates Primaries are scheduled for August 26, 2023, to select five candidates for the main primary, which will take place on November 4, 2023. Acheampong’s swift change in stance highlights the dynamic and often fluid nature of political endorsements and decisions within political parties.
