The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has criticised Ghana’s seeking of a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the 17th time.
Speaking at a public forum in Ho as part of the 30th-anniversary commemoration of Ghana’s Parliament, Speaker Bagbin emphasised that no society in the world has ever developed through the assistance of the IMF.
The speaker said: “The IMF has never supported any country or society to develop,” questioning the efficacy of Ghana’s approach in seeking repeated financial assistance from the international organisation.
Highlighting the need for a change in narrative and a reevaluation of the country’s development strategy, Speaker Bagbin urged a rethink to ensure a more sustainable and effective path for development.
