Rev Dr Canon Patrick Okaijah Bortei, Anglican Parish Priest for ST. Andrew Anglican Church Abossey-Okai opined that the church was not consulted about the NPP Flagship program, the Free SHS Policy.
During an interview on Adoatv AM Ghana, Rev expressed disappointment that the government did not consult churches on the free SHS policy. According to him, any decision made in the political sphere affects the people.
Canon Dr, Bortei had clarified that the church owns schools in the country and that education started from the church. However, due to the government’s lack of consultation, the church no longer engages in activities related to the free SHS policy. He further stated that the church has solutions to the free SHS policy, but their non-involvement by the government prevents them from taking any further action. He emphasized that people listen to the church as a moral conscience. During the show, he mentioned, “We have a Judas, therefore, some churches will not live up to it.” If it had not been for the church, we would not be where we are today, economically, educationally, linguistically, and in terms of health.
Meanwhile, the church has set an example of not necessarily being involved in politics but the church has something to do he said.
