Vice President Bawumia launches the “Tap Go” System

By Angelina Tukpe

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the “Tap and Go” system, a revolutionary digital initiative, at the Metro Mass Head Office in Accra.

“Tap and Go” is a digital card preloaded with cash, and can be used for paying transportation fares by simply tapping the card, just like in the United Kingdom. The “Tap and Go” card has both physical and virtual features to provide convenience to the users. Dr. Bawumia is not only introducing Ghana to the digital world, but he is also doing so with great speed and efficiency. The digitalisation initiative of Dr. Bawumia is being implemented in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy and has a positive impact.

To use the card, individuals will need to download the tap-and-go app from the app store and choose the virtual card option. This will enable them to make payments through MOMO on their phones unless they prefer to use the physical card. During an interview, the news team spoke with Agyei Asante, a prominent figure of influence and the chairman overseeing Okai Kwai South, along with other individuals.

The tap-and-go transport initiative is aimed at helping to formalise the informal transport sector with the help of a well-structured and tested technology. This project will help to build a single system for the entire transport for all the various transport operators to enhance efficiency and bring about transport fare stability in Ghana.
