Former Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has been chosen to join the Manifesto Committee of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 election. Gyan, who holds the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian player, will lead the “Youth and Sports” sub-committee within the manifesto team.
Gyan will be among a group of twenty-three individuals tasked with conducting a thorough review of the NPP’s manifestos from 2016 and 2020, aiming to craft a practical manifesto for the upcoming 2024 election. The committee intends to achieve this by collaborating with various stakeholders and seeking input from sector ministers, who will serve as advisors.
Their goal is to develop a forward-looking and pragmatic manifesto that addresses the needs of the Ghanaian population. Earlier this week, Gyan shared a cryptic message on his X (formerly Twitter) account, which has now been elucidated by his appointment to the committee. In his message, he stressed the importance of sports icons uniting to utilize their influence, networks, and resources to attract investment into Ghana and positively impact the nation’s youth in sports like football, boxing, and athletics.
With his newfound role on Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto team, Gyan is anticipated to actively contribute to the sports-related aspects of the manifesto once it is finalized.
