A lawyer and research consultant for the African Center for Tax Policy Research, Francis Timore Boi Esquire said political parties should provide extensive education to the public on issues of tax policies to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of taxation as well as decision-making among them.
In an up-close interview with the research head of the Data Analysis Insight of Adoa TV, Maxwell Mensah, he emphatically stated that the majority of Ghanaians lack education and knowledge about the various taxes leading to an issue of tax noncompliance.
According to Timore Boi, observations from previous years on tax implementations indicate a vague when politicians introduce tax inventions without providing further clarifications on what the taxes imply.
Therefore he is urging all “political parties to create a more constructive and structured tax policy system” that will provide more elaborations to the public about reasons for introducing particular taxes, and the benefits associated with them, which will encourage people to pay taxes.
Timore Boi added that politicians should use revenues generated from the taxes to do what they are intended for such that the taxpayers do not feel cheated.
