The Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Dauda Fuseini, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) over the boxing athlete quota for the 13th African Games.
He said that, out of a total of twenty-five athletes comprising thirteen males and twelve females, the LOC has reduced the number to a total of fifteen athletes despite the game being hosted in Ghana.
In a discussion on sports Xplosion on Adoa TV, he added that the ten athletes to be cut out can be those who will uplift the country by earning gold medals; hence, deciding to select the fifteen athletes has not been easy.
“Maybe the weights to be taken off can be the weights to get us golden medals because the selection is sometimes dependent on balloting and the number of entries, so if you have allocated fifteen slots to us and it gets to the point where the ejected boxer has the advantage to get gold, what do you think you have done?” he said.
Though the Ghana Boxing Federation has appealed to the LOC to reconsider their decision, they have turned a deaf ear, Dauda Fuseini added.
