The Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo has stated that when he becomes President of the country after the 2024 general election, every Ghanaian child when born, will receive an amount of Ghs500 until he or she turns 18 years old.
During an interview with Mensah Maxwell on Adoa TV’s Daily Connect show, Akpaloo revealed that he had initially planned to distribute Ghs200 per child. However, due to the economic hardships in the country, including increased inflation and exchange rates, he decided to increase the amount to Ghs500 per child. Akpaloo believed that the original amount would not have been enough to make a significant difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.
“Every month, every child will receive Ghs500 till they turn 18 years, and the amount will be reviewed over time due to inflation and other economic conditions” he said.
He stated that the aim of the initiative is to eliminate poverty and alleviate economic pressure on the government by enabling beneficiaries to become self-sustaining as they develop and progress.
