BY Janet Dumas

Abubakar Kamoko Affectionately called Ambitious Tilapia secured a silver medal in boxing at the just-ended 13th African Games.

Following in the footsteps of his father, who secured a bronze medal at the 1999 African Games in South Africa, Kamoko has ensured himself a silver medal surpassing what his father did during his tenure.

Competing in the 86kg Cruiserweight division Kamoko was excited about achieving this feat since it was his first attempt.

In an exclusive interview on Adoa TV’s Sports Explosion, Kamoko stressed winning a gold medal to set his record at the international level.

He therefore urged the government to invest in boxing and also to secure sponsorships for the boxers

This he explained will encourage boxers to do more in boxing and not only focus on football.

“Government should put more money into the development and promotion of boxing and also sustaining activities for the boxers so they can concentrate.”

The son of the Legendary Boxer later apologized to his supporters for failing to win a gold medal as he promised when he got into the final. He therefore promised greater achievements ahead.
